Product Description
Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

Worthy of giving to friends and family ( clergyx2 )
The Shack

I enjoyed this "take" on a faith journey that may have been fictional but "fits" so many people. I resonated as well with the unique view of God - so much so that I purchased additional copies for my friends and family. I look forward to reading it again for the "underlines" as I galloped through it the first time. Don't be put off by the pace in the opening chapters. It picks up and is worth the time.
We all inhabit a shack from time to time or for a lifetime ( nurturingconnect )
The title caught my eye - the content held my attention. Weaved throughout this compelling novel lies a deeper story of self-examination. I saw that someone has addressed the book theologically (by writing another book)and I almost purchased it to see what they had to say. But I stopped short not because I was afraid of any scriptural contradiction that I might find. I stopped because I wanted to hang onto the courage to identify my own "shack" and the redemption acquired from doing so. A deep and wonderful story about courage to take responsibility for your feelings and your behavior. A testament to forgiveness because perfect love cast out all fear.
  The Stretcher

The Shack will stretch the way you think when it comes to the character of God. You will never be the same and it will be for the better. It's an awesome exercise. Couldn't put the book down. We have an awesome God!!
Much needed picture of God painted. ( rabbithouse_5 )
The Shack has done for Christianity what is very difficult for "Churches" to do. Because the church is full of people who are struggling with their own issues, it is very hard for them to paint the picture of God's love as it should be painted. This book could and should be read by all Christians, new and old, but I think it is important that discussion with other Christians, especially those who are in a muture relationship with God is important. We have read and discussed this as a family. We have different opinions, but all agree that the image of God painted in this book could change people's lives. The one reason this didn't achieve 5 stars is because we felt the writing itself was rushed at times and lagged at other times. Happy reading.
  Judging God
The authors style didn't pull me in right away.
Once the main character met the Trinity things became interesting!
Young addresses some very real and tragic life issues in a different way. If the reader has ever experienced loving a child s/he will be able to easily understand the concept(s) Mr. Young delivers.
He gives his view of how God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit view organized religion which has caused quite a stir with priests and pastors (as well as many parishioners).
This is suggested reading for families because it will open discussions which will enable parents and children to share their beliefs.
It's a quick, easy read and in the end you will learn something about yourself and how you judge.
